Inner Transformation Through Yoga

Patanjali explains that for the real yoga to happen, one must move from prathyahara to dharana, dhyana and samadhi. And that requires a conscious decision. It brings a profound transformation in our lifestyle, in the way we live and perceive what we call life. It needs an individual interest to be awakened. The real yoga is a complete lifestyle change, not a pseudo make-up in the name of performing few asanas or pranayamas.
Many yoga adepts will find their practice comes to a halt when it comes to dharana. We are unable to move deeper into the realms of consciousness. Nithyananda says, what we need is honesty in identity. Only then we can move on to dharana, dhyana and samadhi. All pseudo-identities, those we are not truly able to fulfill, are dangerous like cholesterol!
Understand yoga does not only address the symptoms, it goes to the root of disease, to the deeper levels of our existence. If we feel like we are stuck in our lives, it means we haven’t yet taken the full responsibility for our identity. We are still split between maintaining images for the world and for ourselves.
So two things are needed to move from prathyahara to dharana, for the breakthrough to happen:
1) Intense Practice or Tapas (including asanas, pranayamas, meditation… etc.)
2) Feeling responsibility towards our inner space

So be honest to your identity and take the responsibility for the role you are taking. Only then you’ll be able to merge with the cosmic consciousness, into the soul of yoga.
